Splashing and Sirens

Our pool closes for the season on Wednesday, so we had to get one last trip in before we packed away our bathing suits, sunscreen and swimmy diapers. Taylor was thrilled. Mommy and Daddy, not so much. The water was FREEZING. The weather was in the 80s but the water was ice cold. It was fun though. We had a great day of splashing, jumping and making laps around the pool deck. Taylor was pooped, and so was Daddy. We all slept well last night!

So, Taylor has been changing quite a bit lately. Stringing two and three words together to form sentences (well, demands) like “Mommy, sit down,” “mere, duck!”, “Daddy mess!” (when Daddy cooks), and my personal favorite, “I lala too” (I love you too). She dances, she sings, she knows - and asks for - what she wants, she feeds her stuffed animals Cheerios with a fork, and she babies her baby doll. This is a great stage. It’s so neat to see her personality developing. Now, one new thing that has not been so wonderful is this screech that we like to call “the siren.” The siren is a piercing sound that flows from the oh-so-large lungs of The Taylor when she wants attention. It’s the horribly annoying up and down, repeating noise that you hear when you have been going too fast or rolled through a stop sign. Or not done exactly as your toddler desires. No matter the circumstance, whether the sound is emitted from a police car or the mouth of a short, blonde, crazy child, a siren always leads to immediate stress. I never wish anything away, but I think it’s safe to say that I am ready for the siren to stop. I love her to pieces. But I’m OVER the siren.

brookie can also utter some ear piercing screams when she doesn't get her way. luckily hana has outgrown that, so you should be out of this stage in, oh say, another year or so... :)

I just found your blog from a link on Casey Chappell's blog. Athough the circumstances were different, my husband and I lost our son on August 9th of this year. Our Carter was 22 weeks old when he was born and only lived an hour and half. It is has blown me away to find that so many others have had to walk this journey of losing a child this year. It brings comfort to my life to know that nothing is a surprise to our savior and that He has a perfect plan for our lives. Our our son's funeral, our pastor shared with us that for each tear drop we will shed, the Lord will provide a joy. We are keeping our eyes open and seeking the joys of the Lord in the midst of this pain.

Blessings,

It must be a girl thing. Jack, now 3.5 years, never went through the high pitch squeals. But Emma, now one, is already starting the sirens.
